Call CNN and change this. 404-827-1500, select Option 1. You will be connected to someone looking for Breaking News. Explain that you would like to speak about the case of the two 16 year-old rapists, and how the news station is focusing on them, labeling them as the victims, and not saying a single word about the ACTUAL victim.

I called and was able to speak with an actual person about this. After hearing what I had to say, he replied “Okay, let me get you the correct extension.” This then brought me to a voicemail system, where I explained my concerns about their story a second time.

One thing I said, and I hope that perhaps people will repeat, is that “These two 16 year old boys are not the victims in this situation. They are the perpetrators. They are not victims, they created a victim.”

I just called the number a second time, again going to Option 1. I told the person who answered that I did indeed have an update to the Steubenville rape case, and that they were actually missing half of the story. Again I used the term “they created a victim.”

What I told them was that while they were spending a lot of time talking about how good of students these boys were and how they were such great football players, there was a victim in this story who was not them. I said that the girl in question was now very probably going to experience depression, disconnection, numbness, could very probably have trouble in future relationships… basically I read off a list of symptoms of post-rape trauma.

Again, they connected me to a voicemail box, where I repeated this list. I think people should try to make calls like these. Find a list of rape trauma symptoms and tell CNN about it. Maybe, maybe we’ll get a more realistic news story.

Attn: Internet. The Mayan calendar was never meant to predict the end of the world.

It was, however, meant to signify the start of a new cycle. Just as the season changes four times a year, the Mayans predicted a change in the human experience. Hellfire has nothing to do with it. If there are to be changes, which I believe there will be, they will start out subtle. A few leaves will start to change color, if you take my meaning. Soon, however, all the trees will be bright, new colors. The air will be crisp. Our tastes will begin to change and the shift to fall will be undeniable.

This is what the prediction was about. Not the end of the world, just the next part of the experience.

Potterheads! Whovians! Sherlockians! Anyone in a fandom! A great fandom project needs YOUR HELP!

“Real for Us: Fandom, Friendship, and the Boy Who Lived” is a documentary about Harry Potter fans to premiere at LeakyCon 2012 this summer in Chicago.

As you can see, it’s not just about Harry Potter… this film is about all fandoms! About anyone who has experienced something, whether it be a ride on the Hogwarts Express, or flying around in a blue box in space, and immediately wanted to be a part of it.

We’re hoping it’ll be a really great film, and we’re really excited to show it off! There’s only one problem. We have a Kickstarter going, and we’re in danger of not meeting our goal. Please please please consider donating a few dollars to this film! And if you’re unable to donate, please help spread the word! A friend and I were having a conversation about aliens. He believes that this sudden spike in movies, TV shows, books, etc. about aliens is the government’s way of getting the public “used to the idea” of extraterrestrials being real. This way, sometime in the future, when they reveal to us that they are, in fact, real, it won’t be as difficult for us to believe.

It made sense to me.

And until tonight, I considered it pretty plausible.

And then tonight, I thought…

Zombies.
